| Chappuie II, Louis E. “Lou”
Louis “Lou” Edward Chappuie II, devoted husband and grandfather passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on June 3rd following a two year struggle with brain cancer. Lou will always be remembered for his celebration of life, generosity, and his moral character. Lou is survived by his wife, and best friend of 45 years, Emily Price Chappuie, his sister, Jean Dozark of Edina, MN, his daughter, Anne Christine Chappuie of Highland Park, IL and his son, Louis Edward (Beliz) Chappuie III of El Dorado Hills, CA;grandfather of Lara Kathryn Chappuie, and Suzan Emily Chappuie, and Louis James and Jonathan Perry Novelli.Lou Chappuie was born in Faribault, Minnesota on August 19th, 1938 to Edward Chappuie and Ruth Gunderson Chappuie. At a young age, Lou obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1955, he was selected by the American Field Service to be an exchange student in postwar Germany. He later graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1960 with a degree in Economics, Math, and Biology, and a Master’s Degree in Economics in 1961. Lou then entered the Navy as an officer and served onboard the US Leader. He later became a professor and debate coach at the US Naval Academy where he met and married Emily on April 1, 1967 at the Annapolis Naval Chapel. After honorable discharge, he entered the US Foreign Service. Always adventurous, Lou drove to Guatemala to report for duty on Christmas, 1967. In 1968, Lou and Emily relocated to Lexington, KY where he accepted a job with Spindletop Research. In 1972, Lou moved to Sacramento, California to work for Arthur Young and shortly thereafter joined a startup firm, David M. Griffith and Associates (DMG). For the next twenty years, Sacramento was home. Lou became CEO of DMG in 1992 and relocated to Lake Forest, IL. In 1998, he engineered the sale of DMG to MAXIMUS and remained as DMG President through his retirement in 2000. Lou and Emily then traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Lou was active in community service. He was an acolyte at the Episcopal Cathedral in Faribault, MN. He was a Scout Troop Leader in Carmichael, CA where he shepherded many young men to the rank of Eagle Scout. He also served as the PTA President at Our Lady of Assumption and AFS Coordinator. Lou was a member of Executive Services Corps (ESC) of Chicago and served on the Financial Committee of the United Way of Lake County. Though, his proudest accomplishment was starting the MAXIMUS Charitable Foundation, where he supported philanthropic initiatives for children.
