Lydia Scuderi Hanrahan (nee Scherrer), age 88, passed away on June 1, 2012. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fausto Scuderi, and second husband, Richard Hanrahan. She is survived by her nephew Victor Wetter; her step-children, Richard (Svetla) Hanrahan, Priscilla (Larry Cady) Hanrahan, Sarah (Bryan) Apple, Douglas (Jennifer) Hanrahan, Peter Hanrahan and Rebecca (Jason Arp) Hanrahan; seven grandchildren and her beloved companions, Mariella Ilieva and Violetta Pandurska. Born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, Lydia Scuderi lived in Paris, France before coming to the United States. A founding partner of Lake Forest Travel Bureau, founder of Travel by Lydia and past president of the midwest chapter of the American Society of Travel Agents, Lydia Scuderi was a pioneer in international luxury travel. She led one of the first tours to China after Richard Nixon’s historic visit in 1972. There were few places on earth she left unexplored. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7 at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 East Vine Avenue, Lake Forest, Illinois.
