Mary Kay Tschanz, 60, passed into Eternal Life on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 after a two year struggle with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease. She dedicated almost 35 years of her life to the mission of Catholic Education by serving as principal of St. James School in Highwood, Illinois, for 18 years and prior to that as a teacher at St. Mary’s School in Lake Forest. Mary Kay’s dedication to Catholic education was honored by the Archdiocese of Chicago, Office of Catholic Schools in April, 2011, with the Distinguished Service Award. Countless lives were impacted by Mary Kay’s hard work, amazing sense of humor, and deep love for God. Her life is an inspiration to her family, her beloved students and faculty, and the countless people with whom she shared community and church events. Mary Kay is survived by brothers John (Rita), Charles (Anne) and Thomas (Anne), 11 nieces and nephews, and 13 grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death in 2010 by her parents, Willard and Kathryn Tschanz of Lake Forest.
