| Bernhard Charles Tjarksen, 83 of Lake Bluff, formerly of Waukegan, died March 22, 2012. Bernhard served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1954. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Illinois where he received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering then continued on to receive his M.S. in Chemistry from Bradley University in 1958. He worked as a Chemical Engineer for Abbott Laboratories from 1953-1991. Bernhard was an active runner, cross country skier, bicyclist, backpacker and an avid traveler. Husband of Charlotte, nee Weiss; father of Erik (Gita), Karen, Dirk & Jennifer (Dan) Scroggins; grandfather of Aliceea, Paula, Lucas, Rachel, Adam, Hudson, Camden & the late Sarah; son of the late Bernhard and Irmgard; brother of the late Richard (Barb), Donald (Jane), Nancy (the late Tom) Myers.
