| Ernest Janus, known as Ernie, was born and raised in Chicago, where he attended St. Hedwig grammar school, Lane Tech High School and Loyola University. Since his youth, he was an athlete and sports enthusiast, playing high school football and then managing Loyola’s basketball team. He later coached Pony League baseball and for years was an umpire for the same league. He was a lifelong Cubs fan (he attended the playoffs against the Detroit Tigers in 1945) and was a season ticket holder from the 1960s until the present. One of his other passions was music; he was bassist in the Bobby Richman Quartet for several years and listened to jazz throughout his life. He loved to dance, laugh, and enjoyed the theatre, fine wine and cuisine, which he shared with friends but especially with his family. He was an adoring and devoted husband, a loving and generous father and grandfather. A great, loyal friend and lover of humanity, he befriended many. He was a brilliant and savvy businessman, spending his professional career as an investment advisor, analyzing and anticipating the financial markets. It was a job he was dedicated to and loved. | |
