Shirley  Aiken
Shirley MacLean Aiken, 94, who passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018, was born in Indianapolis, IN, in 1923. She is survived by her son, Ross MacLean Aiken, her daughters, Sharon (Aiken) Hueckel and Lynn (Aiken) Hoth, four grandchildren – Remi Hueckel, Macy Hueckel Keeley, Matthew Aiken, and David Hoth, and two great granddaughters. Preceding her in death were her husband, Philip Aiken and Robert Goldschmidt, and her grandson Benjamin Aiken. She attended Miami University in Ohio and graduated from Barat College in Lake Forest, taught in the gifted education program in Highland Park. She was a 75-year member of Alpha Omicron Pi and a member of North Shore Unitarian Church and Tapestry -- the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Mission Viejo, CA -- during the winter months. She was an enthusiastic vocal musician and member of the Highland Park Music Club. An avid quilter, she made beautiful quilts for family and friends and dozens more for Children’s Hospital in Chicago and Duke Medical Center in North Carolina. A memorial service in Lake Forest is being planned for early fall. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the North Shore Unitarian Church Choir (2100 Half Day Rd, Deerfield, IL) or the Alpha Omicron Pi Foundations (5390 Virginia Way, Brentwood, IL 37027).
