Joan Daker née McCarthy, a loving wife, mother and grandmother died Sept. 27 in Lake Forest, Illinois. She was 62 years old. A virtuous woman, she was known to be an expert hostess and chef who displayed her abiding love for her family and friends by serving sausage bread, prime rib cooked just right and an assortment of desserts. Joan loved making homemade jam with her nieces and their children at the family’s shared lakefront home in Michigan.
Joan was also an adventurer who loved to hike in national parks and logged many steps on her Fitbit, even after undergoing two stem cell transplants for multiple myeloma. Both dedicated and loyal, Joan worked for more than 35 years for Abbott Laboratories. She received a B.A. and MBA from Michigan State University.
Joan is survived by her husband, Kevin, two sons Colin and Brendan Daker, a daughter Susan Daker (Alasdair) Roberts, 5-week old grandson, Colin Roberts, her three sisters Eileen (Edward) Livingston, Catherine (the late John) Yartz, and Patricia Gerety, her brother Robert (Anne Marie) McCarthy as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Anne McCarthy.
